Smisby Badminton Player wins two bronze medals at European Championships in Belgium

Linda Wood, from Smisby, returned from the European Seniors Badminton Championships in Belgium with two bronze medals.

Nearly 1,600 players from 50 countries took part in the event held in Heusden-Zolder.

The first medal came in the singles, where she beat the fourth seed, Maureen Oskam, from Holland, in the quarter-final before losing a tight three-setter in the semi-final. 

The second medal came in the ladies' doubles with partner Jill Smith from Scotland.

In the quarter-final, they beat the reigning champions - Maria Brzeznicka and Ewa Golanska from Poland. - who Linda had lost to in the final in 2022.

In the semi-final they narrowly lost out against the No1 seeds from Ireland, Pam Peard and Sian Williams.

Linda said: "It was a great week, as this year I had gone without any expectations of making the medal stages, I was so pleased to be able to come home with two medals."
