Ashby RFC's Ladies team are set to make history after securing a spot to compete at the prestigious Allianz Stadium on Sunday.

This exciting opportunity comes as part of the RFU's 'Allianz Takeover 25' initiative, which aims to celebrate inclusivity and provide a platform for players who might not otherwise experience the thrill of playing at such a renowned venue.

The event will feature four female and four male teams, with each side participating in a series of games designed to highlight fun, camaraderie, and team spirit.

Ashby RFC Ladies will compete under the T1 Rugby format, a World Rugby version of the game that caters to players seeking a less physically impactive style of rugby.

With simplified laws, a reduced team size, and innovative rules like 'the tackle triangle' and non-contested scrums, the format ensures safety while retaining the heart and soul of the sport.

For Ashby RFC Ladies, this represents more than just a match — they say it is a milestone in their mission to open rugby up to more women and girls.

The team has become a trailblazer in promoting alternative pathways into the sport, offering an inclusive environment where participants can experience the thrill of competition without the traditional image associated with rugby.

It is also the first time a grassroots club has played this format at the Home of England Rugby.

Claire Kurpil, the team's founding captain and Team Manager, said: "We're incredibly proud to be part of this event.

"Our players have shown immense dedication and passion, and this opportunity is a testament to the positive direction women's rugby is heading. We're especially thrilled to showcase how the sport can be adapted to welcome everyone, regardless of age, experience, or confidence with contact."

Ashby RFC says it has long championed the idea that rugby should be accessible to all.

Their women's programme, since its inception in June last year, has grown rapidly, thanks to its welcoming ethos, flexible training sessions and focus on enjoyment and development.

From club stalwarts to newcomers, from experienced players to complete novices, everyone has a role to play and a chance to shine.

At Allianz Stadium, the Ashby RFC Ladies will take to the field to experience the full match-day treatment—changing rooms, team announcements, photos, and all the fanfare expected from such an iconic venue.

The day prioritises player experience, allowing them to create lifelong memories alongside their teammates and families.

For anyone interested in joining the team, Ashby RFC is always looking for new players. No prior rugby experience is needed — just a willingness to get involved, have fun, and be part of a supportive community.

Come along and see how Ashby RFC Ladies are redefining what it means to play rugby—and why there's never been a better time to get involved.
