What's on in Ashby this weekend - Jazz night, art workshop, yoga and live music

The Original Panama Jazz Band are appearing at the Venture Theatre this Saturday night.

Started in Wallasey in 1954, the band continues to play great jazz over 60 years later.

No original members survive, but over 40 musicians have passed through the line-up, playing host to many great names in Jazz.

Among those who have featured with the band include Humph, Digby Fairweather, Kenny Ball, Pat Halcox, Roy Williams, Alan Elsdon, Pete Allen, Campbell Burnap, George Chisholm and Tommy Burton.

As part of the band's 60th anniversary year (2014), Neil Raymer of Raymer Sound has reissued (on CD) a tape that he produced of the band in 1992, called "Something For The Weekend" which is also on sale at gigs.

The Venture Theatre show is at 8pm this Saturday.

Also on Saturday, Ashby Art Club is staging a workshop at Smisby Village Hall with John 'Jay Dubya' Smith.

It is being described as 'Nice and loose, no fuss impressionist style'.

Workshops are open to both members and non members.

Tomorrow night (Friday), Moira Village Hall is staging an evening of Restorative Yoga.

This is described as allowing usto re-learn the art of relaxationwhile developing the skills and abilities to self-soothe.

It enhances healing capacity by helping to regulate stress response and re-balance the nervous system.

The evening is also suitable for complete beginners.

There is more live music at The Greyhound in Boundary this Saturday night, with the The Treble Fours.

They are a band from Swadlincote, named after the nearby A444, which is known locally as The Treble Four.

The band play venues, corporate functions, weddings and festivals across the Midlands.

The Treble Fours are always in high demand as their energetic set is always a crowd pleaser with something for everyone.
