Here are three events happening this week in and around Ashby.

Tonight (Saturday), the Venture Theatre in North Street is hosting the Wendy Kirkland Jazz Quartet.

Wendy is a superb vocalist and keyboard player.

She performs songs by the likes of Diane Krall and Blossom Dearie and is a fresh face to the jazz club.

On Sunday, it's the Staunton Harold Duathlon in the grounds of the South Derbyshire beauty spot just a few miles outside Ashby - with an 8.30am start.

Next Thursday, the Lyric Rooms in Ashby stage the British Comedian Of The Year Semi Final, with the Funhouse Comedy Club - 8:00pm (doors 7:15pm).

It promises to be one of the biggest events of the year.

The national competition with the biggest prize in comedy, 10 professional and semi-pro comics battle it out.

Industry judges and you the, audience help pick the winners.
