VIDEO: See Nicola 'Brave The Shave' at Ashby optician in aid of cancer charity
Specsavers Ashby transformed into a hairdressers for one night only as a team member had her head shaved - and helped raise more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
After a close friend was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas, Nicola Lappin, in-store trainer at the store on Market Street, wanted to show her support.
Pledging to Brave the Shave, she is now sporting a close cropped hair do which was given to her by her
sister-in-law, Sarah Gilbert, who works at Specsavers head office. Nicola said: "I'm really overwhelmed at all of the support as I originally set a fundraising target of £500, so to more than double that is just brilliant. "I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated, I know the money will be put to good use in helping with the continued fight against cancer. "My friend has been there for me on so many occasions so this felt like something I could do in return to show my support." Specsavers Ashby store director, Kuljinder Bains, added: "We're absolutely thrilled Nicola has raised so much for Macmillan. "The whole team was behind her after she told us what she was going to do. "It's a lovely way to show how much her friend means to her." You can still sponsor Nicola by visiting her fundraising page HERE. In line with guidance from the NHS, Specsavers is keeping safety measures in place, including the wearing of face coverings, unless there is a medical exemption. This includes maintaining social distancing in stores, continuing to use PPE and sanitising all testing equipment and frames before and after each use. Doors will be kept open whenever possible to improve ventilation and although card payments are still preferred, cash payments will be accepted as well.
