Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has set a date for their extraordinary committee meeting to discuss revised plans for the Royal Hotel.

The Royal's owners, Oakland Hotels Ltd, resubmitted their application for a proposed development of the site last month.

Revised Royal plans are submitted to district council.

As a result, Ashby Town Council has organised an extraordinary planning committee meeting for next Monday (February 7) at Legion House in South Street with a 6.30pm start.

On the agenda is the current planning application for the site which reads: Erection of a 30-apartment terrace, office building, cafe kiosk and 69 bed care home with associated car parking access, landscaping and associated access amendments.

Images of the planned development were also made public.

A Save The Royal group has already been set up and held its first public meeting last Sunday.

Battle begins to save historic Ashby building.

The Royal has lain empty and boarded up for the last four years.

That has caused concern among Ashby residents that the almost-200 year old building might be allowed to crumble.
