Organised by Ashby BID, this promises to be a fun event for all the family.

Described as an exhilarating and FREE event, over 30 homemade karts are ready to go racing.

See the karts navigated a jump and chicane in order to win the fastest time down Market Street.

Ashby BID says: "Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for a bumpy ride! One of the biggest races of the year is coming to Ashby.

"Lots of hard work has gone into making the soapbox carts and we can't wait to see how creative the teams have been. Over 30 teams in both junior and senior categories will be competing to see who will get the fastest overall time. We aim to get three runs down the course each if time permits."

The event starts at 10am.

Saturday and Sunday sees the return of the Moira Canal Festival after it was cancelled last year due to bad weather.

The Moira Canal Festival is a family event held on the restored section of the Ashby Canal, at the historic Moira Furnace Museum.

It aims to raise awareness of, and money for, the restoration, extension and maintenance of the Ashby Canal.

This year, the Military Wives Choirs will be there to celebrate the 21st annual festival

Whether it's a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast, Morris dancing, children's crafts, local bands and singers, historical re-enactment or the many traders and food vendors - there's something to entertain the whole family at the Moira Canal Festival.
