Rising Ashby musician Sekou says he is preparing to announce his hometown shows - after a gig planned for last summer was cancelled.

Sekou had been preparing for his first Glastonbury Festival last year with a show in Ashby at the Venture Theatre.

But that was cancelled following discussions with the venue and police.

He also said he planned play two of his songs outside the theatre, after the gig sold out in just 32 seconds.

Sekou, who studied at Ashby School, said he wanted to stage a free show in the town he grew up in.

That meant he was to have been appearing at the low-key Venture Theatre in North Street.

But now he says a new gig, perhaps more than one, is being planned - although a date and venue is still under wraps.

Following the cancellation of last June's show, Ashby de la Zouch Town Council offered Sekou a slot at the Ashby Big Weekend.

Sekou also says his song 'Better Man' is due to be released as a single.

He posted on Facebook and said: 'It's happening. The moment I've been waiting to tell you.

"My first ever song "Better man" the debut single, coming soon!! Here we go!

"Next week, I will also be announcing the Ashby hometown shows."

Sekou was signed to a UK record label two years ago after posting a video of himself singing on TikTok.

He was amazed to discover his video had notched up 3.1 million views and 16,000 comments overnight.

The former Ashby student was even more surprised when he was approached by four record companies, including Good Soldier Records, which is home to well known artists including The 1975, Freya Ridings and Biffy Clyro.

He then signed his first record deal at the company's London offices and had been in talks to sign an American record deal with Warner Music.

Sekou, who has been performing his own songs and posting them on Instagram since he was at school.
