Decapitated rabbits and speared fish have been reported at Donisthorpe Woodland Park and now police are appealing for information.

North West Leicestershire Police's rural beat team raised concerns this afternoon (Thursday).

They said: "It has been reported that over a period of weeks, several decapitated rabbits have been located floating in the water at Donisthorpe Woodland Park.

"Further to this, deceased fish on spears have also been found in open public view.

"Have you seen or heard anything?

"If you do have any information, please call 101 and ask to speak with PC 237 Holmes."

Donisthorpe Woodland Park was created in 1996 by Leicestershire County Council on the former site of Donisthorpe Colliery, which was opened in 1857.

The colliery lagoons have been capped with clay and planted with new woodland.

The Park also includes a section of the three-mile long Ashby Woulds Herittage Trail that runs between Moira and Measham.
