Police warning drivers to be alert after series of car thefts in North West Leicestershire

North West Leicestershire Police have issued a series of steps to avoid your car being stolen - after four vehicles in as many weeks have been targeted by thieves.

Police say that the drivers should be alert to the risk - with a BMW, Audi and a Jeep Cherokee among those cars to be stolen in this district.

A social media post says: "Please remember some of the steps you can take to help protect your vehicle from theft.

"Over the past four weeks, we have received at least four reports of vehicles – including a BMW, an Audi and a Jeep Cherokee – being stolen in the North West Leicestershire area.

"Enquiries remain ongoing into these reports.

"Please ensure you continue to help to protect your vehicle from thieves by:

• Always ensuring your vehicle is fully locked when you leave it – this includes any windows and the sunroof

• Keeping your keys safe – keep your keys out of view when at home and away from your front door.

• Parking responsibly – try and park in a busier or well-lit area

• Using good quality in-car security locks if possible such as a steering wheel lock
