North West Leicestershire Police have issued a series of steps to avoid your car being stolen - after four vehicles in as many weeks have been targeted by thieves.

Police say that the drivers should be alert to the risk - with a BMW, Audi and a Jeep Cherokee among those cars to be stolen in this district.

A social media post says: "Please remember some of the steps you can take to help protect your vehicle from theft.

"Over the past four weeks, we have received at least four reports of vehicles – including a BMW, an Audi and a Jeep Cherokee – being stolen in the North West Leicestershire area.

"Enquiries remain ongoing into these reports.

"Please ensure you continue to help to protect your vehicle from thieves by:

• Always ensuring your vehicle is fully locked when you leave it – this includes any windows and the sunroof

• Keeping your keys safe – keep your keys out of view when at home and away from your front door.

• Parking responsibly – try and park in a busier or well-lit area

• Using good quality in-car security locks if possible such as a steering wheel lock

"Don't forget you can also find more information and advice on our website HERE.

"If you have any information regarding vehicle theft and crime in the area or you see anything which causes you concern then please contact us.

"You can report online HERE or call 101. In an emergency, always dial 999."
