The opening of the new Springfields development off Burton Road in Ashby has been delayed until the beginning of July.

Builders Willmott Dixon had been on course to have the 65 supported living apartments ready to move into next spring.

But a second coronavirus peak combined with the winter months ahead means that the project has a more realistic completion date.

In a letter to those who have shown an interest in moving into the complex next year, emh Springfields said: "We wanted to write to you to provide you with an update as to how the build is progressing on site.

"Whilst site has remained open throughout lockdown and has coped brilliantly with the COVID situation, we are now finding that knock-on delays as a result of COVID and the seasonal weather changes have caused a slight set back on site.

"Willmott Dixon are still working as hard as they can towards a completion date of Spring 2021 and whilst we have every faith in them, we are in the midst of a second peak of the virus in this country and are also headed into the Winter months which we all know can be notorious for bad weather.

"We have therefore made the decision to delay the anticipated move in date for residents to the very end of Spring/early Summer.  We are looking at the date of July 1 now for opening.

"Although we still plan to open the show apartments this Autumn, pushing back the overall opening date will have a knock-on effect as to when we release the apartments for sale and rent and we will communicate these dates to you in due course."
