North West Leicestershire MP joins Labour MPs in sharing ground-breaking report on rural political priorities

A report published by the Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG) has found a shift in the political dynamics of rural communities following the 2024 Labour victory at General Election.
The 'Understanding Rural Britain' report polled over 1,400 rural voters from across the UK and found nearly three quarters of those who responded believe that rural communities have been overlooked over the past 15 years.
Furthermore, three in five of those polled said they feel their rural communities are in decline.
The research was led by 26 rural Labour MPs, including North West Leicestershire MP Amanda Hack. They found that healthcare, the environment and the rural economy were at the top of the list of political priorities for rural voters.
The reported showed an overwhelming feeling of neglect in rural communities, with 74.4% of people saying rural areas had been overlooked by the government in the last 15 years.
Over 80% of those polled also said they believe a rural strategy is needed to address challenges unique to rural life, including access to public services, affordable housing, the future of farming and food production.
Speaking about the report, Amanda Hack MP said: 'Having been part of this group since its inception, I'm proud of the work to highlight our countryside communities and ensure they are at the heart of the national conversation.
'This work is about more than just identifying problems; it's about building practical, progressive solutions that reflect the realities of rural life.
'Areas such as North West Leicestershire must play a crucial role in delivering our ambitious growth mission and drive for better infrastructure.'
