The Belper Arms in Newton Burgoland is planning to give away more than 1,000 pints of FREE beer this week.

A post on the pub's Facebook page says it will be handing it out on Tuesday until it has all gone.

There will also be a hog roast held alongside with all proceeds going to help Twycross Zoo.

The message adds that they plan to re-open with new stock and want to give away their current batch.

But they say you must bring your own container to take part in the giveaway.

The follows another giveaway at The Bull's Head in Coalville on Sunday morning which is under the same ownership.

The Belper Arms is recognised as being the oldest pub in Leicestershire and dates back to 1290.

But it has been closed along with all pubs since the Coronavirus lockdown was brought in last March.

The pub's online post reads: "FREE BEER - TUESDAY EVENING, PLEASE SHARE PEOPLE.

"Tuesday, 16th June, 7pm-9pm we are dispensing all our in-date beer.

"We will be reopening with all new cellar stock and are giving away for FREE well over a thousand pints!

"If you want to take advantage then you MUST bring along CONTAINERS to dispense the beer into and we will fill as many as you can carry.

"We have many keg lagers, ciders and bitters and will be happy to give them all way to our wonderful locals until it has ALL gone!!

"Remember social distancing rules. See you all soon. The Belper Arms".

Kirstie Croft, who runs the Belper Arms with dad Graham, said: "The brewery have been great and they will restock the pub for the re-opening, but we have to rid of the old stock first.

"We actually re-opened the pub in March and had a great first week, but then people got scared with the Covid-19 pandemic in the second week, then we went into lockdown.

"Now we want to open up again mid to late July but there's a bit more work to do here as the pub is so old.

"On Tuesday, bring your own containers for beer and please adhere to social distancing.

"In light of recent requests. Please can all who are in support of keeping open Twycross Zoo wanting to help feed its animals, please bring along a cash donation on Tuesday evening.

"The amount collected will be announced on our Facebook before donating.

"We have also been given the opportunity to offer our locals a hog roast within the Belper Arms grounds.

"Again the company hosting the hog roast will be donating a percentage of their profits to Twycross Zoo.

"We can't express enough how we must all keep two meters apart. All staff are using hand sanitiser to keep you safe so it would be beneficial if you could do the same. All alcohol must be drunk offsite."
