New figures have revealed that a total of 29 people in Ashby and the surrounding areas lost their lives to Coronavirus-related illnesses between March and May.

And 20 of those occurred when the pandemic reached its peak in April.

The latest official data where the virus was listed as the cause of death has been released by the Office for National Statistics .

But all of the areas in Ashby and around now show that the mortality rate is decreasing.

The worst-hit area is Ashby itself which recorded a combined figure - in the north and south of town - of 14 fatalties.

And that figure spikes in April when 11 people lost their lives, according to the ONS figures.

The area covering Donisthorpe, Moira and Blackfordby has suffered seven deaths.

Three people lost their lives in the Measham area - with five in the Packington, Lount, Ravenstone and Coleorton areas.

The map, which requires users to enter their postcode, is careful not to reveal actual locations of the fatalities.
