A Leicestershire couple spent part of their wedding day at Costa Coffee in Ashby - as it was the setting for their first date.

Gary and Michelle Rawle got married in Loughborough in April.

But ahead of their reception at The Beeches in Ashby, they stopped off for a quick cuppa at the place where it all started for them.

Staff at Costa in Market Street knew about the significance of their visit - and made all the more special for them as they sipped coffee, this time as man and wife.

Michelle first shared her story on the Spotted: Ashby site.

But she told Ashby Nub News more about how big a part the town's Costa had played in her and Gary's life.

Michelle said: "We met online and started speaking in the September, but we didn't meet up until the February, that was in 2018.

"So, we met up at the Costa in Ashby which was where we had our first date.

"We were there for three or four hours! But we never looked back and went from strength to strength.

"Our reception was in Ashby and we thought it'd be a nice touch to visit Costa after the wedding. We went straight from the registry office to Costa, before the reception.

"It was something a little but unique, to have photos taken at the place where we first met. Our photographer wanted to do it and we asked the people at Costa if it'd be okay - they said they'd love to have us.

"The staff there was absolutely lovely. We thought it'd be nice to spend half an hour or so there to take stock, just the two of us, before we met up with everyone else.

"Costa decorated our coffee cups and even let us keep them as a momento. We will definitely be visiting again next year on our anniversary."

But it was not the first time the couple had been married - it was the second such occasion for both.

Michelle added: "To be honest, we both said we'd never do it again. But then we had a change of heart after Christmas and decided we'd get married this year."
