More than £90,000 worth of latex gloves were stolen from an HGV parked in a layby just outside Ashby.

Thieves slashed the sides of the trailer and took 13 pallets containing more than 1,000 boxes of the gloves.

Now Leicestershire Police have issued an appeal for information following the raid which took place between 11.30pm on Thursday, July 30, and 7.30am on Friday, July 31.

The HGV was parked on the northbound carriageway of the A42 at Ashby, between junctions 12 and 13.

Leicestershire Police provided details of the incident this morning (Wednesday) and said: "Officers investigating the theft of more than £90,000 worth of latex gloves from a HGV are appealing to any motorists who were in the area to come forward.

"The HGV was parked in a layby, the curtain sides of the trailer were slashed and 13 pallets were stolen.

"Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have been travelling along the A42 during the night of Thursday into Friday (30-31 July) and saw any suspicious activity in the layby.

"The suspects would have required a large vehicle to take the items away.

"If anyone saw a vehicle other than the HGV pictured in the layby we ask that you get in touch.

"Also if anyone has video recording equipment installed in their vehicles, we would ask that they check the footage as they may have captured the incident.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 2968 Gavin Chantrill on 101, quoting crime number 20*393796."
