Moira Furnace Warns Visitors Of The Risks Of Dangerous Parking

Moira Furnace officials have asked drivers not to park dangerously on the road approaching the Museum & Country Park.

They do not want motorists parking along Furnace Lane on a blind bend as they believe this will cause an accident.

Moira Furnace opened its top car park again last Friday for visitors.

But on Wednesday, they posted 'congestion and danger' concerns online about visitor parking.

Their message said: "As previously announced, the top car park is open for visitors. "Unfortunately, despite this on Furnace Lane, there are some visitors who have decided to park on the blind, narrow bend.

"It will only be a matter of time before there is an accident.

"We would kindly ask all visitors to use the car parks provided and not park on Furnace Lane as this is a very narrow road and causes congestion and danger to other visitors."

It echoes the warning given out by North West Leicestershire Police last Saturday after they highlighted motorists parking on a blind bend outside of Hicks Lodge Police tell drivers to act responsibly

Last week, Moira Furnace officials recognised the problem and opened up their top car park.

Then, they posted: Following the latest advice from the Government, we have had many cars parking on Furnace Lane, as far as the main road.

"So, we have taken the decision to re-open the top gravel car park for users of the site.

"The crescent car park will remain closed for now, as will the playground, as per the Government restrictions, but we hope with the opening of the top car park, it will make it easier for visitors to enjoy the site.

"We would ask that you please park sensibly and not on the grass.

"We also ask you to follow social distancing at all times and avoid contact with people outside your family group.

"Together we can get through this. Thank you for your ongoing support in this tricky time."
