Amanda Hack, MP for North West Leicestershire, has provided an update on the cyber incident affecting Manchester Airports Group (MAG) and impacting millions of customers.

Three major airports were affected by the hack, including Manchester, East Midlands and London Stanstead Airports, accessing the data of almost nine million people.

The hacked data includes customers' contact details, vehicle registrations and postcodes.

The hackers demanded a ransom fee for the return of the data, which the MAG refused to pay.

'Having spoken directly with East Midlands Airport,' said Hack, 'I have received an update on the situation and the response that is now underway.

'Specialist cyber security support has already been engaged by MAG and a thorough review is now underway to establish what happened and ensure appropriate measures are in place.'

Hack explains the impacted data relates to car park, lounge and Fast Track bookings, as well as in-airport WiFi sign-ups at Manchester, London Stanstead and East Midlands Airport.

Airport operations and passenger safety has not been affected.

'I will continue to monitor the situation and remain in contact with the airport as the review progresses,' said Hack. 'Customers who have concerns should use the contact details provided by the airport for the latest information and support.'
