Market Street and Brook Street in Ashby will be closed from 8pm to 10.30pm tonight (Friday) to prevent traffic disruption during the England v Scotland football match.

Traffic will be diverted via Derby Road, Elford Street, The Green, North Street, Wood Street, Market Street, Lower Church Street, South Street and Bath Street.

No waiting will be allowed on Lower Church Street, South Street, Market Street and Brook Street between 5pm and 11.59pm

A spokesperson for North West Leicestershire District Council said: "Following the first England football match on Sunday, around 80 people gathered outside of the Lamb Inn, spilling onto the road.

"The police maintained a cordon to allow the traffic to continue to flow.

"The road closure has been put in place to prevent any disruption to traffic during and after England's next European Championships match against Scotland on Friday 18 June.

"It's possible that further road closures will be needed as the tournament progresses – please keep checking for details, and follow diversion signs when in place."
