A member of the public was pushed into the Ashby Canal by a group of youths yesterday evening (Wednesday).

North West Leicestershire Police say a further appeal for information is to be made soon - possibly featuring still shots of people who officers want to speak to.

Police issued an appeal yesterday aimed at stopping youngsters jumping off the Ashby Canal bridge at Moira Furnace Youngsters are jumping off bridge into Ashby Canal.

Now this latest incident has highlighted more problems with local groups of youths.

A social media post from North West Leicestershire Police says: "Further to my post yesterday (16/6/21) regarding the dangers of Ashby Canal, unfortunately last night we had an incident reported to us whereby a member of the public who was walking along the canal path was pushed into the water by a group of youths who had congregated in the area.

"I think it is fair to say that this sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and dangerous, and due to the dangers outlined yesterday, could have had fatal consequences!

"A media appeal will be published shortly, possibly with CCTV stills of persons we wish to speak to in connection with this investigation.

"If you were involved or have any information regarding this, I would urge you to contact Leicestershire Police on 101 quoting crime ref 21000336068."
