A burglar who stole a car and bank card from an address in Donisthorpe has been jailed.

The thief also then went on to use the bank card to buy goods

On 18 October last year, 46-year-old Neil Wakelam broke into an address in Stanleigh Gardens, taking the keys to a black Kia Ceed and the bank card. He then drove the car from the address, before abandoning it nearby.

Wakelam, of St Catherines Road in Newhall, Derbyshire, then used the card to buy goods from two shops.

On Friday (20 May) at Leicester Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to one count of burglary and two counts of fraud by false representation.

He was sentenced to 85 weeks' imprisonment.

Detective Constable Natasha Perkins, the investigating officer, said: "I'm pleased Wakelam has admitted his crimes and is now serving time in prison.

"I hope the public can take some comfort from the fact such a criminal is now off our streets.

"I'd like to thank those members of the community who came forward with information that led to him being brought to justice."
