Man in 80s is taken to hospital after 'medical episode' prior to Ashby collision on busy route

A driver in his 80s was reported to have suffered a medical episode before a three-vehicle collision in Nottingham Road this morning (Thursday).

Severe delays were caused by the incident which happened during a busy period shortly after 8am.

Road closures were put in place while the man received treatment.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Police were called at 8.05am today (Thursday) to a three-vehicle collision in Nottingham Road, Ashby.

"The collision involved two cars and a lorry.

"East Midlands Ambulance Service were also in attendance.

"A man, in his 80s, who had been driving one of the cars, has been taken to hospital following the collision where he is currently receiving treatment.

"From initial enquiries, it is believed that the male suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.

"Road closures were put in place following the incident. The road has since reopened. Enquiries remain ongoing."
