Leicestershire Police investigating death of man on A42 near Ashby in early hours incident

Leicestershire Police say detectives are investigating the death of a man on the A42 near Ashby in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

Police received a call just after 2am to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on the southbound carriageway of the A42– close to junction 12.

It was also reported that, prior to the collision, a man was seen sitting in the carriageway.

East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended. Sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Road closures were in place following the incident. The road has since re-opened.

Officers are in the early stage of their investigation and are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen a man standing over the Ashby Road bridge or witnessed the incident.

Anyone who was driving past junction 12 of the A42 is also asked to check their dashcam for any footage that may assist with the investigation.
