Donisthorpe residents voice their frustrations after three year campaign to control speeding traffic through the village
Donisthorpe residents say they have had a three-year fight to get more speed monitoring in the area.
While they accept that it is not the only village in North West Leicestershire not to have traffic problems addressed, they say their frustrations have had little response.
That is despite the fact that a speed monitor fitted to a lamp post in Hill Street showed 33 per cent of vehicles were in excess of 30mph - and a top speed of 50mph-plus.
Ashby Nub News has been told that residents have been campaigning for speed monitoring - and have now contacted North West Leicestershire District Councillor Robert Ashman and MP Andrew Bridgen for their comments.
After several requests, there was more of a police presence to deter speeding.
The next approach was to ask for training so villagers could start a Speedwatch group, where members of the community can monitor the speeds on different roads within the village.
Donisthorpe Parish Council investigated the idea but there was more frustration at Leicestershire County Council level who have said this will now not happen until next year.
That will take the campaigner' wait to four years.
During the last 12 months, there has also been a campaign for a Mobile Vehicle Activation Sign (MVAS) as Donisthorpe has never had one despite others in neighbouring communities.
The Highways Department has reportedly said Doinisthorpe does not have the correct posts for them to be fitted to.
Now Hill Street and Church Street both fit the bill but there is still no MVAS.
Over the weekend, North West Leicestershire Police took to Facebook and mentioned Donisthorpe has problems, asking the the North West Leicestershire community where they would like them to conduct speed monitoring next.
They were inundated by requests from all over with 30-plus replies from Donisthorpe.
