On Friday 15th August, people across the world will be holding commemorations to mark the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day).

VJ Day marks the day in 1935 when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces, effectively ending the Second World War.

The Ashby Branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding a short service in the War Memorial Garden on Brook Street in Ashby.

Those wishing to attend should arrive at 11.30am, with the service commencing at 11.45am, in time for the nation-wide two minutes silence at 12 noon.

Mayor of Ashby, Councillor Damilola Ojuri will be in attendance and lay a wreath on behalf of Ashby Town Council, alongside representatives from the Ashby branch of the Royal British Legion and veterans.
