Children's Martial Arts Centre In Ashby Going From Strength To Strength

An Ashby fitness studio is offering the town's only martial centre for children - and enrolling new students.

Motiv8 is based at Wood Street in Ashby but uses space made available in the Town Hall for youngsters.

The classes are run by owners Liam Parker and James Bryan, along with their team.

And Liam says the response has been good despite the difficulties of lockdown the past few months.

He said: "Because of restrictions we could only have 20 in a class at any one time, but we have around about 50 kids coming at the moment.

"The academy side of it is just the kids, Motiv8 studio was established in 2008.

"I was at Holywell Mill, then we moved into a smaller unit, but it was so small we couldn't do a lot with it.

"So when the Town Hall became available it gave us the opportunity to expand into what we really wanted to do which was kids' development classes.

"There were a whole heap of things that we wanted to tackle. And we've gone from strength to strength since the lockdown finished, it's doing all right.

"My background is that I have competed professionally as a Thai boxer and kickboxer.

"So they get all that instilled into the classes of stand-up martial arts and self defence."

Liam says he wants to encourage more children to get involved now the studio has more space to work with.

He added: "We're at the back of the Town Hall which used to be a furniture shop.

"We'll be pushing the free trial classes, to try and get people active again after lockdown, and I've decided that we will be running free trial lessons into the new year.

"That's just to encourage parents to get them here and get them motivated again, we want to get as many people involved as we can."
