Ashby fire crew tackling field fire in Coalville

A fire crew from Ashby is among seven Leicestershire Fire and Rescue vehicles tackling a corn fire this afternoon (Tues).

The fire service received several calls about the blaze in a field of corn in Chiswell Drive just before 3.45pm.

Also mobilised were two appliances from Coalville, one from Castle Donnington, one from Swadlincote, the Shepshed command support vehicle and Loughborough water carrier.

A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue spokesman said at 4.30pm today: "We received several calls to a field fire involving standing corn.

"One field is involved in the fire and well alight.

"Two hose reel jets and beaters in use."
