Car Fire Causes Traffic Delays on A42 Near Ashby

A car fire caused traffic to be stopped on the A42 near Ashby this morning.

The incident was on the northbound carriageway between Junction 13 and 14.

Fire crews were called to the blaze.

Highways England said: "The A42 northbound J13 - A511 Ashby, Loughborough, Coalville - to J14 - A453 CastleDonington - traffic has been temporarily STOPPED due to a car fire.

"Leicestershire Fire and Rescue are currently at scene. Traffic Officers are on their way to the area to assist."

An update from Highways England said: "Lane one remains closed pending recovery, lane two is now running past scene.

"Take extra care as the road has been washed clean. Gritter on the way."

The incident was one of many across the county as drivers struggled with the icy conditions.

Leicestershire Police are urging motorists to stay at home unless their journey is absolutely necessary.

It was a busy morning for Ashby Fire Station who also dealt with an early morning crash which saw a vehicle collide with a house, causing significant damage to the property.
