A car has collided with the front of a house in Wood Street in icy conditions on Ashby's roads this morning (Monday).

Police say the driver was injured and the house evacuated for safety reasons.

Ashby fire crew has attended and published photos of the incident on social media.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: "We were called to a report of a car leaving the road and damaging the front of a house in Wood Street, Ashby, this was around 5.45am today.

"Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are at scene and East Midlands Ambulance Service have been called too.

"The house has been evacuated for safety reasons.

"There is no mention of anyone in the house being injured, one person from the car has been injured but no details of extent of injuries at this time."

The property has been taped off and with the SUV car still on the pavement.

The car appears to have caused extensive damage to the brickwork and front door of the property.

Leicestershire Police have warned drivers to stay off the roads if they can.

They said: "Road conditions are still very poor and likely to be so for most of the day.

"Please avoid all travel unless essential."

Highways England also reported that two lanes had been closed due to a collision on the M1 northbound J21A to J22 - for the A511 to Ashby and Coalville.

It was later reported that the incident had been moved to the hard shoulder.

But Highways England also added: "We are dealing with a high volume of incidents across the region this morning. If you MUST make your ESSENTIAL journey, then please drive to the conditions."
