Ashby's council deep clean will be completed after the Statutes have taken place later next month.

North West Leicestershire District Council's plans to give the town a clean-up as it emerges from lockdown had to be delayed - Deep clean delayed due to shortage of drivers - but it started last night (Wednesday).

Now it has been decided that - with the Statutes fairground dominating Market Street and Brook Street in the middle of September, the operation will now be concluded after that.

A social media post from the district council says: "Our deep clean in Ashby will resume until the end of the week, starting around the Loudoun Monument and along Bath Street.

"To get the best results, we'll then return to complete the rest of the programme - once the Ashby Statutes has taken place - from 22 September onwards.

"Thanks to everyone for their continued patience."
