Ashby's post-lockdown 'deep clean' has been delayed and will not happen now until mid-August.

The reason given by North West Leicestershire District Council is that there were not enough drivers to clear up the resulting mud created by the clean-up operation.

The District Council says: "Our street cleaning programme in Ashby will begin a little bit later than expected and is now due to start on August 16.

"This is because we currently have a shortage of drivers to help clear the mud off the roads once the pavements have been cleaned.

"Whilst our contractors will use protective equipment, cars parked overnight in the North Street/The Green area might get a little bit wet in the process.

"If you can, we'd recommend finding an alternative spot when the works are expected to take place in this area. Thanks again for your continued patience."

The deep clean is part of a move to give both towns a wash and brush up now that Covid regulations are being relaxed.
