Ashby de la Zouch Town Council has agreed to allow the Street Street Treats event one date at the Bath Grounds this summer - before seeing if it is popular enough to stage another two.
The food and drink event is under new ownership after previously being staged in the North Street car park on a monthly basis.
Now, Mitchell Horler wants to bring it back to Ashby, but on the Bath Grounds.
Mitchell told Ashby Nub News last month that he is eager to bring 'a wave of positive changes to this beloved community event'.
It is a mix of food and music aimed at families, which normally starts early in the evening and lasts until around 9pm.
Mitchell has asked the Town Council to put on three Street Street Treats events on May 31, June 28 and August 30.
But councillors at Monday night's meeting of the Events and Tourism Committee would not commit to all three.
Instead, it was agreed to run the May 31 event and see how popular it is, before agreeing to the other two.
In documents presented to the committee, the organisers said: "I propose, Ashby Street Treats and Beats is a monthly event which primarily focuses on bringing a community event into the town on pre-agreed dates.
"The event offers are safe space for partners, friends, colleagues and families to meet, eat, drink and listen to music by bringing together a variety of street food and drink offenders for people to sample cuisine from various parts of the globe.
"Offering restaurant quality food without the price tag or formality. Set in a relevant location in Ashby.
"To also provide a platform for live acoustic set some local artists. To act as a safe but atmospheric meeting place after work until the evening.
"To offer a new both very on-trend regular evening out for all ages. To attract people from within Ashby, but also surrounding areas into town where perhaps interaction within community is not as prevalent as it used to be."
But the committee discussed the proposal in the organisers' absence.
Chair, Cllr Murrae-Blair Park, said: "If this is your business, they'd be answering questions now, whereas we're anticipating operational difficulties then come up with solutions.
"That's not what you'd expect from a vendor."
Cllr Carl Benfield said: "I suggest we allow him to run the first event, although we have concerns. We don't want to quash enthusiasm and if it's a great success, all power to your elbow."
