Ashby School has confirmed that one of its pupils has died.

The School has not named the student but issued the following statement.

It read: "We are extremely sorry to have to confirm the death of a Year 11 student.

"All our thoughts and sympathies are with the student's family following their tragic loss.

"We are providing additional support to staff and students, particularly those close to the student, to help them through this very difficult time."

A Fundraising page has been set up for the family of the pupil, named there as Ewan.

On Friday, more than £6,300 had been donated towards funeral costs.

The message on the page reads: "Ewan and his family have had a major impact on so many people's lives through DanceNetwork, and Ewan's smile and energy, as well as his ability to light up any room, is something that many of us remember fondly.

"Funerals can be costly, and no one should ever have to bear the burden of paying for their child's funeral.

"The beneficiary of this GoFundMe is Ewan's family. Any kind donations may be used for funeral costs, or in whatever way they feel it will benefit them most."
