The travellers who pitched up at a lay-by and forced an Ashby businessman out of his cafe have moved on.

But the area now faces a huge clean-up operation due to the mess left behind on Friday.

The lay-by at Bird's Hill in Measham is now covered in litter, most of which has been dumped in the ditch just off the parking area.

Items such as discarded beer cans, old suitcases, bin bags full of rubbish, a tyre and even a traffic cone, formed a line of waste where around 11 caravans had been.

Ashby Nub News saw the carnage and you can take a look for yourself with our photo and video running alongside this story.

Paul Boyle owns the Ace of Spades cafe on the lay-by and he was forced to move out when the travellers arrived last week.

He is now waiting to see what can be salvaged of his business.

It meant he lost income while the travellers were there and a JustGiving site was set up to raise money for Paul until he could re-open the cafe.

The crowdfunding was initially set up to raise £200 - but on Friday, the amount was close to £1,400.
