The grand opening of the new Lidl on Resolution Road will include pupils from Ashby Hill Top Primary School cutting the ribbon. 

Lidl bosses have invited locals to join the grand opening on Thursday 4 December at 8am with complimentary food samples and prizes up for grabs. 

The store has been controversial amongst residents, with locals and members of Ashby Town Council concerned about the additional traffic on the already congested Resolution Road and Nottingham Road. 

There has also been criticism of the close proximity to existing stores Tesco Extra and Aldi. 

The new store has created 40 new jobs, with the chain claiming the store will boost the local economy. 

The store will be open Monday to Saturday between 8am and 10pm and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
