This year's Ashby Pride Day will have a 'cafe culture' feel to it, councillors have been told.

The event was moved from its original July date this year, to Saturday, August 10, to avoid clashing with the European Football Championships.

It proved a wise move, as England ended up playing Switzerland on that day.

Now organisers are focusing on the new date, and, on Monday evening, councillors were given an insight as to what people can expect.

Town Centre Manager, Stuart Benson, spoke to Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's Finance & Events Committee.

He said: "There'll be full road closure of Market Street and Brook Street.

"There'll be a large stage across the street near to Gregg's and facing up Market Street.

"Live music is planned throughout the day until around 8pm.

"There are going to be maybe 50-60 stalls lining Market Street towards the kerbside, that'll allow space for street entertainers, face painting, etc.

"Once it packs down in the evening, it'll then move into the venues, and the pubs and nightclubs will take over.

"All the retailers have been encouraged to get involved with the event - cafes can bring the tables and chairs outside.

"Then we can make it a cafe culture event."
