The organisers of this year's Ashby Pride have announced the date of change for the event from July to August.

It has been put back to August 10 as the original date of July clashes with a number of events.

The European Football Championship quarter-finals will be staged on that day - with England possibly playing.

Also, police resources will be stretched due to the Kasabian concert in Victoria Park.

A statement issued by Ashby Pride this evening (Saturday) said: "We would like to announce that Ashby Pride 2024 has been rescheduled to Saturday, August 10.

"This change comes with careful consideration to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees, as the original date of Saturday, July 6, coincides with other high-profile events in Leicestershire.

"By shifting the date, we aim to guarantee an atmosphere where everyone in our town can revel in the festivities without worry, and enjoy Ashby celebrating everyone in our town, no matter their background.

"All paid stallholders will be contacted shortly regarding any cancellation refunds and how to claim these, but we hope that as many as possible can still join us."

The event was held for the first time in Ashby last year and proved to be a successful addition to the town's calendar.

The statement adds: "Last year we were joined by over 3,000 people during the day to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in the local area, and this year is going to be even bigger and better.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, an extend our thanks for your understanding and continued support. Let's make this year.'s Ashby pride the best one yet."
