Ashby de la Zouch's events calendar 'puts other places to shame', local councillors were told tonight (Monday).

With next year's diary already under discussion, Ashby de la Zouch Town Council's Finance & Events committee discussed how the 2025 schedule would look.

This year has seen the council work with Ashby BID on the success of the Soapbox Derby in Market Street, while Ashby Sport Fun Day was staged on the Bath Grounds for the fourth time.

Town clerk, Jack Fargher, told councillors that Ashby's events calendar was something the town should be proud of.

He said: "It might just be worth reflecting, on how far we've come as an organisation.

"When I came here in 2011, the events programme for the town was a brass band on the Bath Grounds twice a year - which was witnessed by two pensioners and a lad on a bike.

"Now we have a full and really comprehensive events programme.

"It puts a lot of places to shame if I'm honest."

Cllr Kenny Horn, one of the Ashby Sport Fun Day organisers, supported those comments.

He added: "I did a survey as part of the election process last year - and that came up as one of the most important thing or local people - the events calendar for Ashby.

"It's one of the things people refer to when they describe the town - the fact that we run local events."

Committee chair, Cllr Chris Smith, said: "It's one of the more visible things about Ashby."
