Ashby MP Hack says she is putting pressure on authorities to help those affected by repeated flooding
Coalville MP Amanda Hack has paid tribute to the volunteers who helped tackle the Leicestershire floods this week.
A major incident was declared in the county following snow and rain last weekend.
The North West Leicestershire MP told the House of Commons and Minister for Flooding, Emma Hardy
"I want to thank our emergency responders, our local government and the Environment Agency, but also I want to thank and honour the amazing work of our flood volunteers.
"I spoke to one and she was exhausted. She'd been up all night, so I want to pay tribute to her.
"Could the Minister confirm how local communities like Measham, Packington and Long Whatton in my constituency will be supported long term to recover from repeated flooding events. At what point will we see a stop to these, these events in our communities?"
The minister replied: "I'm sure her constituents have done an incredible job, and I understand why the volunteers must be feeling so exhausted.
"We've mentioned before the impact that flood events have upon people's mental health as well, in terms of areas at risk of repeated flooding.
"That's one of the things we want to look at with the flooding review to make sure that the areas that are at frequent risk of flooding, are getting the support that they need in terms of the immediate post flood situation."
Ms Hack released a video on Wednesday giving an update on the floods.
She said: "I'm in Measham and I've also been to Long Whatton to speak to local people about the impact flooding has had in the last few days.
"But also the repeated flooding that people have been experiencing over, over many, many months locally.
"I just wanted to reassure people. I've been speaking to Leicestershire County Council, I've spoken to the Environment Agency, to DEFRA and the ministers, just to keep the pressure on to get some resolution for local people being constantly affected by continuous flood water.
"If you are affected, or have been affected, please do get in touch with my office.
"I really want to understand how many people have been affected by internal flood water.
"However, if you experience something in an emergency, don't forget to call 999. The Fire Service and other emergency services have been there to help you when you've needed it.
"Leicestershire County Council's website has got a load of advice about what to do in the case of flooding. Please make sure you're flood ready."
