An Ashby man has been sent to prison for eight weeks after being charged with a series of offences following attempted burglaries at two town centre pharmacies.

Mitchell Williams, 24, was charged with attempted burglary and theft from a shop.

He was also charged with possession of a blade and common assault and appeared before Leicester Magistrates yesterday (Monday) where he was committed to prison for eight weeks concurrent.

Police have confirmed the stores that were targeted were both pharmacies.

There was a police presence at the Ashby Pharmacy on The Green on Sunday morning - the Market Street store was Boots.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "A 24-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

"The charges relate to incidents at business premises in The Green and Market Street in the early hours of Sunday morning (30 April).

"Williams, of Ashby, has also been charged with possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place and common assault.

"He appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court yesterday."

Last week, two people were taken to hospital following a break-in at an Ashby chemist, thought to be Boots in Market Street.
