Two people were taken to hospital yesterday evening (Sunday) following a break-in at an Ashby chemist.

Union Passage - which is next to Boots - on Market Street, was closed off as police officers and ambulance services attended the incident.

Police say that a man and a woman were hospitalised after medication was reported to have been taken from the store.

The people then swallowed what they had stolen prior to police arriving

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told Ashby Nub News: "Shortly after 9pm yesterday (Sunday 23 April) a report of burglary was received at a chemist in Market Street, Ashby.

"It was reported that medication had been taken.

"Two people – a man and a woman – were located nearby and taken to hospital as a precaution.

"Enquiries into the incident are continuing."
