Ashby Ivanhoe 2 Loughborough Students 6
Ashby Ivanhoe were soundly beaten by a ruthless second half performance from Loughborough - who extended their unbeaten streak to 14 league matches.
Ivanhoe made an excellent start and took the lead on 18 minutes when Will Mansfield was first to react as Toby Larsen saved Sam Grouse's spot kick, smashing home from close range.
In the only other action of a quiet half, Loughborough equalised through a penalty of their own with five minutes to play. Dylan Edwards was able to beat Sam Taylor low to his right with pin point effort which found the bottom corner.
The second half saw an explosion of goals and clinical finishing. It started in the worst way possible for Ashby as the visitors took the lead three minutes in through Jonty Bouch who found space from a corner to finish first time.
The Scholars scored goals three and four, in a four-minute span, either side of the hour mark. Edwards fired his second in with a fantastic one on one finish and teammate Ryan Hayes scored with a strike which arrowed into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box.
Ivanhoe looked to have pulled themselves back in the game as James Harrison fired one back. The midfielder atoning for missing a big chance earlier in the half with a clinical finish as the ball fell to him from 10 yards out.
Their comeback was short lived though as, just eight minutes later, Oliver Parsons increased the deficit yet again as Ivanhoe once again failed to deal with a Loughborough setpiece.
Ironically, both goalkeepers had little saves to make in the second half, a testament to the ruthlessness of the attacking play. And yet again Taylor was helpless as James Cook headed home the sixth and final goal for Loughborough just four minutes from time.
The goal was the third Ivanhoe had conceded from a setpiece in the match, which will undoubtably have been a huge point of disappointment and reflection for manager Andy Gray and his players.
Saturday provides a quick chance for respite though as Hucknall Town visit Farley Way. The Nottinghamshire side have only won two league matches this season, however one of those was in the reverse fixture, making it an intriguing match up.
