Community groups in Ashby and North West Leicestershire are being encouraged to apply for new funding to help local areas bloom in time for Spring.

North West Leicestershire District Council's (NWLDC) Green Shoot Grant scheme is now open and groups can apply for funding to plant a variety of flowering bulbs across the district.

The scheme is match funded and community groups and parish councils will be able to choose from a combination of narcissi, daffodils, crocus, and tulips to create bright and colourful displays.

A minimum order of 2,000 bulbs is required and would cost approximately £120, with a further £120 of match funding provided by NWLDC.

Applications need to be made before Friday 27 August and can be submitted online HERE

Other schemes are also available including the Zero Carbon Scheme for environmentally-focused community projects across the district. More information can be found HERE.

Councillor Andrew Woodman, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at NWLDC, said: "Due to Covid-19, we were unable to run the Green Shoots Grant scheme last year, so we're really pleased to bring it back this year.

"It's not surprising that the scheme is really popular as it makes a massive difference to our community and keeps our open space and green areas looking vibrant and full of life.

"The new displays are always gratefully received by residents and I'm looking forward to seeing the flowers in bloom next Spring."
