Ashby 20: Committee Members Deliver Race Food To Local Causes After Event Is Called Off

Organisers of the Aldi Ashby 20 race delivered surplus food to worthy causes on Saturday.

The race was cancelled on Friday, along with several other high profile sporting events, due to serious concerns about the spread of Coronavirus.

What Ashby Needs To Know

A decision was made less than 48 hours before the event which had attracted a 1,500 strong field and is used by many as preparation for the London Marathon which has now been put back to October. Ashby 20 Cancelled

But the Ashby 20 committee did not want food that had been prepared for the event to go to waste.

And some committee members distributed them to four local charities: Burton Soup Kitchen, YMCA Burton, Derby Soup Run and Falcon Support Services (FFS).

The committee split up 800 cobs and over 2000 biscuit bars.

But it is believed that there is little chance of being able to reschedule the event for later in the year in the same way as the London Marathon has.

The event organisers are all volunteers and the time and effort to put on an event of this magnitude is huge.

But all of this year's entries will be given priority for the 2021 race.
