Angry residents object to 'significantly larger' window at Ashby property - as councillors raise concerns

Councillors have raised objections to a planning application for a dormer window at an Ashby home - which one neighbour claims 'makes privacy impossible'.
A retrospective application for the retention of rear-facing dormer in Bosworth Close has met with strong opposition from local residents and Ashby de la Zouch Town Council.
At a meeting of the town council's planning committee earlier this month, an objection to the scheme was based on the original drawings being inaccurate and unrepresentative of what was built.
The council told North West Leicestershire District Council: "The footprint of the dormer is inappropriate and considerably larger than the that shown on the drawings.
"The treatment of the fascias is not in keeping with the original plans."
Former town councillor Graham Allman, a nearby resident, told the committee: "I object to the retrospective application on the following grounds which I will keep short due to the other well considered and documented postings by affected residents, and are more how the dormer directly affects our private lives and rights to privacy.
"The dormer extension is much larger - approximately one third - than shown on the application drawings, both initial and current application.

"The dormer overlooks our private space, both patio and greater grassed garden area, all of which we frequently use.
"By way of a triple window, we have observed people looking out of these windows overlooking our private space making our right to privacy impossible.
"Under the Human Rights Act 1998 I quote: 'The impact of a building on its neighbours in terms of privacy by physical effect of a building , its bulk or position must be given consideration.'
"When heard by Ashby Town Council in 2022 the application was declined due to inadequate and inappropriate parking."
Cllr Murrae Blair-Park added: "I object to the retrospective application as the dormer window is significantly larger than the plans submitted.
"I would expect the building enforcement officer to revisit the site to inform the applicant that they have not built this dormer window to the size or spec that was originally submitted."
Another resident says 'the very clear terms of planning approval have been breached'.
A decision will now be made by North West District Council planners.
