The Lyric Rooms is hosting a semi-final for the prestigious national 'British Comedian Of The Year Competition' tonight (Thursday).

Funhouse Comedy presents 10 pro and semi-pro comics battling it out to try and get through to the next round.

Industry judges, and you the audience, help pick the winners.

Nine comedians (from TV comics to the best rising stars) compete to see who will go through to the semi final of the £10,001 British Comedian of the Year competition - the biggest cash prize in UK comedy. 

Each act performs their best 10 minutes, and you (YES YOU!) the audience vote for your favourites to decide who goes through and who doesn't. The power is all yours!

St Helen's Church Community Centre is holding its first Sing and Sip evening on Friday.

If you love singing and enjoy a good glass of wine, come along.

Having recently been awarded a distinction at level 3 in the prestigious WSET Award in Wines, experienced vocal tutor Aimee Harrison is branching out into the world of wine education, hoping to combine music and wine to bring a fun and inclusive evening.

She will be leading a fun and informal one-hour standalone singing workshop with fantastic new material, followed by a tutored tasting of four great wines to enjoy.

It is still Oktoberfest at Conkers and the Moira venue will be hosting its second Oompah Night on Saturday.

Come along for a Bavarian Night in the Forest Hall and celebrate in true Oktoberfest style.

Karl's Brass, one of the best Oompah Bands in the country will be your hosts for the evening. A hot German-themed supper is included.

The evening programme starts with background music whilst everyone gets seated and ready to roll.

By this time everyone will have a stein in hand and will be preparing for the some musicians, with more music, party spirit games and some competitions to ensure a vibrant atmosphere is created.

It will be another busy few days at Brew in Ashby.

Tonight (Thursday), the Market Street craft beer bar will be hosting another Open Mic night with Gareth Humphreys.

On Saturday, there is more street food on offer, this time from Poutine Punks.

Then, this week's Lazy Sunday Afternoon session is with Steve Bradshaw.

There will be FA Vase football at Ashby Ivanhoe this Saturday.

The Lower Packington Road club will be taking on fellow United Counties League rivals Belper United.

The tie is at the NFU Ground with a 3pm kick-off.
