Amanda Hack MP has welcomed the news that new community-based early intervention services will be rolled out in North West Leicestershire from April.
Family Start Hubs hope to act as a one-stop-shop for parents with SEND professionals and services, such as toddler groups that support speech and language development.
The introduction of these hubs will mean families of SEND children will benefit from earlier, faster support.
Councils will be required to appoint a newly created dedicated SEND practitioner in each hub, providing direct, family-facing support that has been lacking previously.
Welcoming the news, Amanda Hack MP said: 'For too long, many families of children with SEND have been left to cope on their own while successive government overlooked their needs. That ends now.
'One of the strongest messages from my roundtables with parents and teachers was the sheer lack of local support. This new dedicated SEND provision in our Best Start Family Hubs across Ashby, Measham, Coalville, Moira and Castle Donington, will make a genuine difference to families' lives, giving parents access to the help they need right on their doorstep.'
Better Start Family Hubs will help families with services like:
- Activities for children aged 0-5
- Birth registration
- Debt and welfare advice
- Domestic abuse support
- Early language support
- Health Visiting
- Housing support
- Mental health services
- Midwifery/maternity services
- Nutrition and weight management
- Oral health improvement
- Parenting Support
- Reducing Parental Conflict
- SEND support and services
- Stop smoking support
- Substance (alcohol/drug) misuse support
- Support for separating and separated parents
- Youth services
