MP for North West Leicestershire Amanda Hack has written to the District Council urging them to bid for a share of £27m in government funding for a VALOUR hub.
VALOUR hubs are part of a new national programme designed to make it easier for veterans across the UK to access care and support, working with the Office of Veterans' Affairs in the Ministry of Defence to improve how services are coordinated at national, regional and local levels.
According to local MP Amanda Hack, 'In North West Leicestershire, we take pride in those who serve our community. I'm proud that, right across our area, thousands of people line the streets every year to show their support for our veterans and service personnel.
'The Government is stepping up support through the new Veterans Strategy. As part of this, I have written to the District Council, encouraging them to bid for their share of this funding to bring a veterans' support centre to North West Leicestershire.
'For too long, our veterans have been let down. That is why we are making substantial changes which will make a material difference for those who choose to put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.'
Hack is urging NWLDC to bid for a share of £27m in government funding for a recognised VALOUR hub, which is part of plans also hoping to £12m to tackle veteran homelessness.
