Leicestershire and Rutland's police force is on track to over deliver on its multi-million-pound budget savings, according to a new report by the police and crime commissioner's office.
The report, which will be analysed by the police and crime panel next week, says that the force is predicting to over deliver on the £9.3m of budget savings that had been identified as necessary for this year.
A combination of measures including staff vacancies, overtime reductions and refinancing has combined to make the savings as well as extra grant income.
It means currently the £9.3m savings needed have been over-achieved by 0.9m.
However, specifics have not been given on how many staff positions are currently unfilled.
Another agenda report that will also be discussed says there are currently 679 neighbourhood police offices in the force.
The report says: "The outturn forecast for the current year is £252.070m.
"This is a positive variance of £2.475m (0.97%) against the annual net revenue budget of £254.545m.
"This is likely to change as we continue through the financial year. The underspend has been achieved from an overachievement of savings and staff vacancies."
It continues: "he 2025/26 budget is forecast to underspend, not only due to the over achievement of the savings target, but also largely due to police staff vacancies across the organisation and over achievement of the vacancy rate set at budget setting."
The precept rose by £14 for a Band D taxpayer this year and the commissioner Rupert Matthews is currently working with senior police officers and staff to work out what level to set the precept at this year.
In recent months the political landscape has changed, with PCC Matthews jumping from Conservative to the Reform UK party.
Following that his deputy Charlotte Chirico resigned and last month he appointed two new deputies, Oliver Bryan and Neetu Squire.
The police and crime panel meeting takes place on Monday (December 1) at County Hall, Glenfield, Leicestershire at 2pm.
