Organisers of the Aldi Ashby 20 have presented a cheque for £600 to Hospice Hope - money raised from the sale of the event's hoodies.

The event is a not for profit 20-mile road race, organised by runners for runners.

Attracting 1,500 athletes from throughout the UK, the 20 mile route is ideal preparation for many participants who are in training for the London Marathon - among other Spring events.

On the day there are around 250 volunteers assisting with the event, from marshalling to providing medical support.

On completion the athletes all receive a famous Ashby 20 hoodie.

Should there be any left over, our volunteers have the opportunity to purchase one, with the funds raised being donated to a good cause.

Hospice Hope offers support to individuals who have a condition that leads to a reduction in quality of life or who have been diagnosed with a life limiting condition as well as offering support to their partner or carer.

Race Director Richard Bebbington presents a cheque for £600.

Richard Bebbington, the Race Director, said: "It's an absolute pleasure to donate the hoodie funds to Hospice Hope.

"They were overwhelmed when we informed them.

"In addition to receiving the 'hoodie' money, Hospice Hope, along with Wishes 4 Kids also received some charity places, helping to raise thousands for two local good causes.

"A small way to thank the local community for their support."

Ivanhoe Runners are already busy organising next year's event which takes place on Sunday, March 17.
